The Britannica International School of Shanghai was founded in 2013 by Orbital Education headquartered near Manchester in the UK[1] . Orbital Education is led by Kevin McNeany who previously founded Nord Anglia group[2].

The Principal is Alun Thomas BA Dip Ed[3]. He was head of the British International School in Ho Chi Minh City and recently the founding head of another Vietnamese school, Renaissance School, Ho Chi Minh City.

Britannica is located in fully rebuilt school premises in the Gubei district. The facilities include indoor swimming pool, sports hall and field, specialist ICT and science labs[4] .

The school delivers a enhanced version of the English National Curriculum preparing pupils for International General Certificate of Education (IGCSE) at 16. The school provides an extensive language programme, including Mandarin and English-as-an-Additional Language (EAL)

Britannica is unique in Shanghai through its British ownership, management, teaching staff and resourcing.

Pupils of all nationalities between the ages of 3-18 is expected to fill to a capacity of 750[5] .
