Yogyakarta located on the island of Java, precisely in south of Jawa Tengah.

History

Yogyakarta has a long time history. It began when Sultanate of Mataram Islam rule almost all of Java. It became independence Sultanate when Mataram Islam was broken apart to be 2 Sultanate.

First Sultan of Yogyakarta was Prince Mangkubumi who then replaced his name to be Sultan Hamengkubuwono I. When Indonesia declare it's independence, Sultanate of Yogyakarta, under the ruler Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX declare itself to be part of Indonesia. And now the ruler of Yogyakarta is Sultan Hamengkubuwono X.
