Biography

Early Life

Ahn Sahng-hong belonged to the Seventh day Adventist church till 1962 and in 1964 he founded the New Covenant Passover Church of God in Busan, South Korea.[citation needed]

Death

Ahn Sahng-hong died of a stroke on February 25, 1985 at 12:35pm at the Merinol Hospital in Jung-gu, Busan, South Korea. [citation needed] His grave is in South Gyeongsang Province where he is buried in the public myosoda in the cemetery near Oeseok-ri. On his tombstone, the words “the prophet Elijah” are inscribed[3] .

Beliefs

Sabbath

Ahn Sahng-hong believed in the (Saturday) Sabbath day. He believed that the Sabbath day had to be kept from sunrise to sunset. He also taught that as long as you have service on the Sabbath day, you can have service any day of the week.

Feasts of God

In his books, Ahn Sahng-hong taught about the importance of keeping the Feasts of God according to Leviticus 23, placing additional emphasis on the Passover.

Eschatology

Ahn Sahng-hong believed to be living in the last days. In his book “The Bridegroom Was a Long Time in Coming, and They All Became Drowsy and Fell Asleep” he wrote that the world would come to an end in 1988 or 2012[4] .

Mother God

After a member of his congregation claimed that she was the “female image of God”, Ahn Sahng-hong wrote a book called “Problems with the New Jerusalem, the Bride and Women’s Veils”. In that book Ahn Sahng-hong wrote that the idea of there being a “Mother God” was delusional[5] .

World Mission Society Church of God

The leader of the World Mission Society Church of God, Kim Joo-Cheol, claims that Ahn Sahng-hong appointed him as General Pastor of his church and that Chang Gil-Jah (Zhang Gil-Jah) was Ahn Sahng-Hong’s spiritual wife. The members of the WMSCOG believe Ahn-Sahng-hong was the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Ahn Kwang-Sup, a son of Ahn-Sahng-hong as well as a Pastor of the New Covenant Passover Church of God, says that Chang Gil-Jah was not his father’s spiritual wife nor did his father appoint Joo-Cheol Kim as the General Pastor[6] .
