Desmond Hamill (2 November 1936 – 9 April 2013) was an award winning British television news reporter who was the chief foreign correspondent for ITN.

Born in Holywood, County Down Down he grew up in Egypt and attended Exeter School in Devon. He served as a commissioned officer in the Devonshire Regiment of the British Army for three years, then became a journalist and became a war reporter in many trouble spots and conflicts and was theRoyal Television Society Journalist of the Year in 1987.[1]
