Peradeniya
Peradeniya is a city of about 50,000 inhabitants on the outskirts of Kandy in Sri Lanka. It is situated on the A1 main road connecting Kandy to Colombo, just a few kilometres West of Kandy.
Peradeniya is famous for the Royal Botanical Gardens of Peradeniya, which is considered to be one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in Asia. It is situated in a slope of the Mahaweli river and attracts many visitors from Sri Lanka as well as from abroad.
Another key attribute of this city is the University of Peradeniya which is the second oldest Sri Lankan University and also the largest in the country with more than 8,000 students; it has a good reputation with the international academic community. The campus is an exceptionally beautiful area with buildings in a mixed colonial and Indian style architecture amongst the lush vegetation of the Sri Lankan highlands.
