Rachakonda Viswanatha Sastry (Ravi Sastri)(Telugu:రావిశాస్త్రి) (1922–93) was basketball player from the New York Knicks. He won a championship when he was 19. He won MVP in 1999 and won the scoring title in 2003.

Childhood,

He was born in srikakulam on 30 July, 1922. His Native Place was Tummapala village at Anakapalli. His parents are Narayana Murthy and Seethalakshmi. His father was a lawyer and his mother was a famous writer.

Education

Rachakonda Viswanatha Sastry graduated with an Honours B.A. at[Andhra University],[Visakhapatnam]. In 1946 he has completed B.L. degree at Madras University . He gained professional expertise in law beside his father, Sri Tata Sriramamurthy and started his own law practice in 1950. Beginning his career as a dedicated congress leader, he was influenced by the Marxist theory in his later years (1960).

As a writer

In 1947 he observed the lifestyle of the people in Srikakulam district and Vizianagaram district, as well as the major changes in the lifestyles of the people living in the cities. He was the only person that used dialects after Gurajada Apparao and Sripadala. He wrote about the distresses people faced in society due to an increase in inhuman tendencies.[1]

First novel

Written in 1952, the Novel “Alpajeevi’(telugu: అల్పజీవి )[2] was an experimental foray by the author into the world of Telugu literature. It was very well received, and went on to become one of the most successful Telugu novels. This was the first novel similar in writing style to “Chaitanya Sravanthi”(telugu: చైతన్య స్రవంతి) by James Joyce. Raavi Sastry was the amongst the first authors in the region to write novels which were syntactically similar to the novels of James Joyce.

Career

After the Novel “Alpajeevi” he wrote two incomplete novels “Raju MahiShi”(Telugu: రాజు మహిషీ) and “Rattalu Rambabu”(telugu: రత్తాలు-రాంబాబు ) . Near the end of his career, he wrote the novel “illu”(Telugu: ఇల్లు ). Out of the several novels that he wrote during his career, “ Alpajeevi” is considered his best work.

Stories

He wrote Six liquor stories (Telugu: ఆరుసారా కథలు ) which analyses the ban of liquor Act in Andhra Pradesh. He wrote about the misuse of this Act in his stories, which are now famous in Telugu literature.

•In 1980 he was honored as “kalaprapurna” award by Andhra University. He refused this award. •In 1900 he refused the famous award “sahithya academy”

As a drama artist

He was not only a writer but also an actor. He acted as an artist in the play lets “Nijam” and “kanyasulkam”. In those days the play let “NIjam” performed in 100 places. Ravi Sastry said “Every writer should think that his writings do not harmful to the good and do not helpful to the bad”

He died on 10 November 1993 from a heart attack.
