Annaliza is a Philippine television drama broadcasted by ABS-CBN that premiered on May 27, 2013 replacing Little Champ on ABS-CBN's Primetime Bida block. It is based on the 1980 television series of the same name starring the late Julie Vega, together with Alicia Alonzo, Augusto Victa and Daria Ramirez.[1][2][3]

Story

Annaliza is a story of a young girl who is described as an angel who will bring life and tears and hope to those who cross her. The story begins when young lovers Lazaro (Patrick Garcia) and Stella (Kaye Abad) are happily in a relationship, Lazaro feels he has met his match in Stella and does everything to fight for his love for her even as if Lazaro's longtime friend Belle (Denise Laurel) has hidden feelings for him as well. Problems arise when Stella decides to stay away from Lazaro because she feels as if his family will think of her as just an opportunist caught in a web of lies she also hides the true reason why she cannot tell Lazaro about her own problems personally in her life as her younger sister must go through surgery in a state of medical crisis she decides to set up a date with a suitor to help her financially as a way to pay off the debt but Lazaro clearly mistakes her as a cheap prostitute but Stella is left brokenhearted, homeless, and pregnant with their child in her womb. Unfortunately she is saved by Guido (Zanjoe Marudo) a good samaritan who after sees Stella trying to commit suicide beside the docks and abruptly saves her and takes her in. She then meets Makoy (Carlo Aquino) who she confides to after taking her into his home as well a friend of Guido who has an interest in Stella. On the other hand, Belle and Lazaro are now a married couple and are expecting a child on the way as Belle and Lazaro are about to have there baby Stella's plan rolls into action to steal Lazaro's child after all the abandonment he caused to their child. As the plan sets successfully into action by Stella and Makoy the baby is now into the hands of Guido but as the loveless couple Belle and Lazaro remain helpless in search for the real kidnapper, Guido raises the child as his own and names her Annaliza but as she grows into a young child Guido wants to marry Stella/Adela how will Annaliza's cruel life begin? Will she ever live happily and peacefully and will she ever be reunited with her real family? And even know about her true identity? [4]

Development

After the success of Maria Flordeluna, Annaliza was suppose to be remaked last 2008, to be led by Ella Cruz as the young Annaliza and Maja Salvador as the teenage Annaliza, but ABS-CBN decided to shelve the show.

On March 2013, ABS-CBN announced that the classic soap will return on TV and will be one of Kapamilya Network's second quarter offerings of 2013.[2]

Ratings

According to data from Kantar Media Philippines, Annaliza successfully conquered the early primetime viewing habit of TV viewers as it reigned in its timeslot with a pilot national rating of 16.7% beating its rival program in GMA Network, Home Sweet Home which only got 8.8%. It soared high on its 2nd day garnering a 19.3% national rating versus the 10.2% rating of its rival.[5]
