Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 182.249.241.22 (talk) at 03:04, 6 June 2013 ({{lw|Manual of Style/Japan-related articles}}). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading of article protection, upload protection, or create protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Dogmaticeclectic (talk) 22:35, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. SlimVirgin (talk) 00:48, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring. Kingjeff (talk) 21:19, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring. GSK 21:09, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruption. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 19:00, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: IP hopping editor suddenly enforcing what he believes to be a "consensus" version of the guideline based on a discussion from 5 months ago despite the "amendment" having never appeared before; likely the IP of a banned editor. —Ryulong (琉竜) 17:23, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The discussion took place 3 months ago and was 4:1 in favor of the current wording. Did it ever occur to you that there might be a reason I am editing logged out? Maybe one sockpuppet on the losing side of that debate was posting (and is continuing to post) personal information about me off-wiki? 182.249.241.22 (talk) 03:04, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Needs improvement. PrivateMasterHD (talk) 17:23, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: This also applies to Dirty Pretty Things (band) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), Eleanor Put Your Boots On (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), Klaxons (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), Lucid Dreams (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), Murdoc Niccals (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), No You Girls (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), Rab C. Nesbitt (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), Tonight: Franz Ferdinand (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), Ulysses (song) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) and Walk Away (Franz Ferdinand song) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views). A number of ever-changing anonymous IPs has been edit warring over these articles and likely more, changing any mentions of them being English/Scottish to British and vice-versa. This happens every day or two and has been going on for over a month now, with the anons showing no sign of heeding any warnings or engaging in any talk page discussions. Semi-protection should at least force these anons to register accounts if they want to continue edit warring and should also make it easier to contact them. I previously took this to Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring but nothing came of it, so I'm bringing it here. -- I need a name (talk) 16:43, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Blood: Franz Ferdinand (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), Die on the Floor/Katherine Hit Me (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) and The Fallen / L. Wells (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) too. -- I need a name (talk) 18:59, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary full-protection: - edit dispute between someone running a pro-Jodi blog and other users.--BabbaQ (talk) 15:47, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This had been indefinitely semi-protected by User:Hoary but the semi-protection was automatically removed when full protection expired (a glitch in our system). Could someone please restore the semi-protection; the article has faced BLP issues over the long term. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 14:45, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Fully protected for a period of 3 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. We'll see what the need is after that period. Maybe indef again next. Alexf(talk) 19:11, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Template correction: No expiration date is listed on the padlock template. 21:05, 5 June 2013 (UTC)PrivateMasterHD (talk)
Semi-protected for three months by Alexf. SlimVirgin (talk) 00:52, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – Need this article protected while attempting to build consensus for neutral language in this controversial BLP. Federales (talk) 23:46, 4 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Declined. I can't see the need for it, but if you have diffs showing the problem, please ask again. SlimVirgin (talk) 23:39, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection. Edit war, with over 30 edits in just over a week with regard to anti-Israeli comments and content. No significant discussion on the talk page. Suspected sockpuppets. --Dmol (talk) 09:21, 4 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Post script - I just noticed that the issue has been on the talk page but is archived. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Linux_Mint/Archive_Israel-Palestine_Controversy --Dmol (talk) 19:29, 4 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Fulfilled/denied requests
