Arijit Singh (born 25 April 1987 in Murshidabad, West Bengal, India)[1] is an Indian playback singer whose songs have been featured in recent Bollywood movies. He was one of top six contestants in reality-singing series, Fame Gurukul in 2005 and became an assistant to music director Pritam.[2]
Career
Childhood
He spent his childhood in Murshidabad He went to Raja Bijay Singh High School and Sripat Singh College. His father is a Punjabi while my mother is a Bengali. His training in music started from his house because his grandmother used to sing, his "mausi" sings Indian classical music, his mama plays the table and my mother still sings. He was a decent student, but cared more about music. After a point in time, He was not eligible to compete in any music competitions since he would invariably win it.[1][3]
Struggle Days
He finished Fame Gurukul in (2005) and then settled in Mumbai in 2006. From 2006-07, He was paid every month by Kumar Taurani's music company since he was doing an album with them. The album didn't release till 2007. So he went to Kumar ji and said, "The album is not happening for whatever reason, so don't pay me because if I am not working there is no point taking money every month." So he refused money from them and started freelancing. Then his real struggle [1][3] started.
Acting ambition
Raj Chakraborty cajoled him into doing one music video for Bojhena Shey Bojhena. He did not want to do that. He don't want to do all of that. He can see for himself that how bad and uncomfortable he look on screen.
Playback Singing
Singh is a trained classical singer who has performed in many stage shows. His career as a playback singer started when he participated in a singing reality show called Fame Gurukul (2005), while still in college.[1][4] Although he did not win the competition, his participation garnered respect and love from fans. He went on to win a subsequent reality show called 10 ke 10 le gaye dil with the help of audience votes.[5] Shankar Ehsaan Loy gave Arijit the first break on one of their songs called "All For One" from High School Musical 2 (Vol 1) album. Moreover, he also sung the title songs of the Indian TV show called Madhubala – Ek Ishq Ek Junoon and "Dadagiri" featuring Sourav Gangully.
