ETF Securities

ETF Securities is an independent, exchange-traded product provider headquartered in the UK which issues Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), Exchange Traded Commodities (Commodity ETCs) and Exchange Traded Currencies (Currency ETCs).

History

ETF Securities listed the world’s first physically-backed gold exchange-traded commodity (ETC), on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) in 2003.[2] In 2005, ETF Securities created Europe’s first oil ETC and in 2006 established the world’s first commodities ETC platform, making 19 commodities and 10 commodity indices available on the London Stock Exchange and other European exchanges.[3]

In 2012, ETF Securities saw inflows of just over US$3 billion and launched 52 new securities and 10 commodity products on the Australian Securities Exchange.

In 2013, ETF Securities launched 28 new products on Switzerland’s national exchange in a range of commodities, including aluminium, zinc, coffee, cotton and sugar.[4] The most recent product launch was on the 19th March 2013 which feature an inbuilt daily currency-hedging mechanism, mitigating the effect of currency volatility in investors’ portfolios.

ETF Securities currently offers 332 Exchange Traded Products (ETPs) on up to eleven stock exchanges.[5] The ETPs allow investors to gain access to commodities, thematic equities and currencies with physical, long, short, forward and leveraged exposure. As of 2012, it had $30 billion in assets under management.[6]

Partnerships

Charles Schwab OneSource

On the 8th February 2013 ETF Securities were selected by Charles Schwab as the sole provider of precious metal exchange traded funds (ETFs) for the new offering, Schwab ETF OneSource™, which was launched in New York. As part of the Schwab ETF OneSource platform, investors and advisors are able to buy and sell 105 ETFs commission free.[7][8][9][10]

World Gold Council

ETF Securities worked with the World Gold Council on the development of the world’s first ETC in 2003.[11] The partnership also collaborated on the subsequent listing of Gold Bullion Securities on the London Stock Exchange in March 2004. The World Gold Council conducts gold investment research, markets gold as an asset class to worldwide investors and partners with financial services institutions to develop new gold investment channels and launch gold investment products.
