Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva (born 1978) is the younger daughter of Uzbek President Islam Karimov and his second wife, Tatyana Akbarovna Karimova.
She earned bachelor's and master's degrees in International Law from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy in Tashkent, and later received a doctorate degree in Psychology from Tashkent State University.[1] In January 2008 she was appointed to her current role as Uzbekistan's Permanent Delegate to UNESCO. Karimova-Tillyaeva is married to businessman Timur Tillyaev and they have three children: two daughters and a son (Mariam, Safia and Umar).
Charity work
She runs two charitable organizations in Uzbekistan which help orphanages as well as disabled children. She set up the National centre for the social adaptation of children in 2004 to provide medical and counselling support to children with special needs. Her first charitable organization "You are not alone" was set up in 2002 to improve the situation in the country's orphanages, protect the rights of orphaned children, providing them with better opportunities for getting comprehensive education.[2]
Business activities
Media reports say Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva is a business mogul and that her commercial enterprises allegedly include Abu Sahiy Nur, a company that controls imports of Chinese goods and boasts a daily turnover of at least $250,000. In fact, the company is controlled by her husband Timur Tillyaev. She owns property in Switzerland and made Bilan magazine's list of Switzerland's 300 richest residents in 2011.[3]
WikiLeaks allegations
A United States diplomatic cable dated from November 2004, leaked by WikiLeaks, described Karimova as frequenting the nightclub "Barkhan" on a near-nightly basis. They also stated that "Lola Karimova drinks a fair amount of alcohol and dances freely while 28-year old Barkhan proprietor 'Timur' and Ms. Karimova’s thuggish-looking boyfriend also serve to keep potential dance partners at bay. Barkhan ownership is obviously well connected, as it's the only place in town that flaunts selling non-Uzbekistan produced hard alcohol, which is against the law."[3][4][5]
