Ásgeir Helgason
Ásgeir R Helgason (b. 1957) is an Icelandic scientist working at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden. PhD thesis (1997): Prostate Cancer Treatment and Quality of Life – a Three Level Epidemiological Approach. From 2002 an Associate Professor in Psychology at the Departments of Oncology-Pathology [1] and Public Health Sciences [2] at Karolinska Institutet.
He is best known for his population based research on sexual function and emotional isolation in elderly men and prostate cancer patients, patient trade-off and his work on smoking cessation and quitlines. Other research includes motivational interviewing and palliative care of cancer patients and its effect on long term well-being in surviving spouses.
His research has been widely sited in the media e.g. as front page material in the Swedish Dagens Nyheter, Svenska Dagbladet, Aftonbladet, Expressen, the Swedish National Television News (SVT) , TV 3 News and TV4 News.
