Brew City Shooter Supply, previously known as Badger Guns and Badger Outdoors[1] is a gun shop in West Milwaukee, Wisconsin, just outside of Milwaukee. The shop has been involved with several controversies regarding the straw purchase of guns,[2] and the number of guns sold by the shop that have been used in crimes.[3][4] The shop has had its license to sell firearms revoked,[5] and to stay open, legal ownership of shop has changed hands several times, within the relatives and friends of the original owner.[6] As of 2011 the shop will no longer sell guns, but will continue to sell ammunition and gun accessories.[7][8] The shop will also continue to operate a shooting range.[9]
Mike Allan, a former employee of Badger Guns, and the brother of original owner Adam Allan, has obtained federal firearms licenses, and plans to begin selling guns again as Brew City Shooter Supply. The store will only sell to members, and to obtain membership potential buyers must take a class, have a concealed carry permit, or demonstrate firearms competency as well as pay an annual fee. Allan hopes that these requirements will cut down on the straw purchases that caused problems before.[10]
In 2010, the Brady Center named the store the #1 seller of crime guns in the nation, based on an ATF statement [11]. [12]
