Fails NFCC criteria 1 - "Non-free content is used only where no free equivalent is available, or could be created, that would serve the same encyclopedic purpose." - That there is no free version now does not take away from the fact that as late as the day of release or as early as E3 in a few weeks, there are going to be opportunities to take pictures of this and release them under free licenses. Just as we don't use non-free images of living people while we wait for someone to take a free one, we should not use non-free images of products while we wait for a free one.   • Keep - The big difference here is that while there is a reasonable expectation that it is possible to obtain a free image of an individual now even if none are available now, it's not possible now to to get a free image of the Xbox One as there simply aren't any available. After release or E3 that will be different but, for the present, there is no possibility of getting a free image so, right now there is "no free equivalent available, or that could be created, that would serve the same encyclopedic purpose". --AussieLegend (✉) 03:40, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete Check WP:NFCI §10. Photos of deceased people are disallowed if there is a reasonable expectation that it will be possible to obtain a free image at some point in the future, even if this currently isn't possible. Deceased people were alive at one stage so it's generally expected that free images will exist somewhere (for people born in the last 100 years or so). That's not an expectation we have with this. It has never been alive. --AussieLegend (✉) 19:44, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep I'm going to repeat what I said about Xbox One Controller.jpg: The image as educational value in that its shows readers what an Xbox One [controller] looks like and their is no free image of it at this time. I'm sure someone will a eventually make a free image of it, but their not reason to wait until that time to have images in the Xbox One article.   • Keep This is obviously an image released by the company. I searched for it and find it used in many news articles, such as Forbes Magazine. [1] Its probably listed on Microsoft's website somewhere, although I don't spot it right away. Need to credit it to its proper original source, not just what random site it was found on.   • Delete E3 is in a few weeks, where a free image is pretty much possible since MS has affirmed it will be demonstrating the unit more and E3 is open to photography. As there is no discussion of the look of the console at the present time (Read: there is no connection to the text and ergo fails NFCC#8), there's no push to get an image in place, per DEADLINE. It would be different if this was a press image and the console was more than months out from a public reveal, but this is clearly going to be available soon so the non-free is inappropriate. --MASEM (t) 00:18, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Also I don't get why we have the clause that explicitly states use if no free alternative exists if we keep doing this. Its such a shame that this is the first thing you see when you look up "Xbox One" and is where many people will get ther information from and yet no one cares if they can put a picture to the name or not.   • Keep - Unless the person that nominated this for deletion can replace this picture with a suitable equivalent then deleting this will degrade the article it is used in. And why are you going after this image when this, this image, this image, this image, this image, this image and all of the images in this gallery are not targeted despite showing the same thing for their respective consoles and being used for the same purpose in their articles.   • Keep The motivation of NFCC #1 is to encourage editors to find or create a free image when it is possible to do so. At present it is not possible to create a free image of this product, short of violating confidential/NDA access.       • Er, absolutely wrong. As long as the uploader on flickr has put an appropriate CC licence (in this case, CC-BY-SA) on the image, it is free to use on Commons and on en.wiki. It is more usable than the non-free Xbox One media image. And because the unit is now on display, there is no allowance for a non-free - a better free image can always be had but that free image does the job necessary to show the hardware. --MASEM (t) 01:26, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong Keep Why do we have the picture that's on the article now, when this file is just fine. I saw the PlayStation 4 picture from it's article being considered for deletion and I gave my argument for that, this photo is the promotional photo from Microsoft why do we need a photo of the Xbox One on the E3 floor? Other video game consoles articles have a promotional picture from the manufacture like the Xbox 360, PS3 and WiiU, why is this any different? It is used not only for decoration. It is a photo of triumph after winning EuroBasket. This type of picture cannot be taken at the moment (because it happened 10 years ago), so it is valid for Wikipedia articles. Lithuania won it after more than 70 years so yeah, I consider it more than just a decoration. (Pofka)

    • Think about QUALITY of the Wikipedia articles. Everything can be simplified into boring boxes of text something like:

Or it can be with solid text, thoroughly describing event, and a photo of it. Would you buy magazine, describing event with walls of text and without any illustrations? I'm sure that you wouldn't be doing that and you would search for another one with images instead. Images = quality and since they're VALID for use in Wikipedia, according to rules, I'm surprised why we're arguing about it.

  • Keep It is a historical moment in Lithuania national team history. It is the first time when Lithuania came back to FIBA tournaments after soviets occupation. Since such a picture cannot be taken at the moment (unless you have a time machine and could travel 20 years back), it is valid for Wikipedia articles. (Pofka)

      • ESkog, it seems all you can do is mess up somebody's else work instead of doing something useful by your self. The photos are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT and there may be thousands of them describing each of the subject in question, since photo of it cannot be made at the moment. End of story. (Pofka)

Invalid FUR: Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding. This image is not critical for understanding, but is used in a decorative fashion. I respect your good faith in submitting this batch of deletion nominations, but IMO the issue needs to be reviewed by the community before any of the images in question are deleted.   • Keep per Richwales. As stated by others below, these images are illustrative of the episodes and increase understanding, so their use seems appropriate.   • Delete, obvious case, as per multiple precedents. Typical example of an image that was evidently uploaded merely as a matter of routine, without any claim to individual explanative significance. Random shot of simply one of the standard characters in an entirely stereotypical pose. Entirely non-specific boilerplate FUR (this makes the image a speedy deletion candidate independently of the outcome of this FFD).   • I don't know what the right answer is for how to nominate these, but having hundreds of separate "discussions" (really just copy/paste replies) is not it.     • There was once a mass nomination at WP:NFCR about all episodes from one season, with the result that all of them were deleted. I'm not sure whether this or that is the ideal situation. Any reason to keep any individual image would obviously depend on individual things in the articles, and then a mass nomination is inappropriate. On the other hand, individual discussions typically turn out to be a lot of copying and pasting of identical comments to multiple sections on the same page, and that also seems to be inappropriate. --Stefan2 (talk) 12:26, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
      • I know and I fully recognize that it's a darned if you do and darned if you don't. But there's just no way that something like this is going to result in individual discussions being evaluated by a closing admin. I picked a few at random and looked at them just to see if any of them were being used for purposes other than decoration and the ones I looked at all seem to be just infobox images used decoratively with no commentary about the image. It is mentioned in the text, "Finally swallowing his pride, the captain then goes down to the Kreetassan capital city and delivers an intricate ritual apology which involves slicing a tree trunk with a chainsaw, arranging the pieces of wood in a complex pattern on the ground, and chanting phrases in the Kreetassan language."   • Keep per Richwales (see File:STMatterofHonor.jpg. As stated by others below, these images are illustrative of the episodes and increase understanding, so their use seems appropriate.   • Delete: Clear failure of WP:NFCC#8. None of the keep arguments indicate what significant increase in understanding this image generates or what detrimental effects would occur from its omission.
