Wikipedia:WikiProject Molecular Biology/Biophysics/Biophysics wiki-edit contest
Conducted by the Biophysical Society (BPS) and WikiProject Biophysics, and sponsored by the Education and Early Careers committees, with the aim of improving wiki content on biophysical topics, introducing more biophysicists to the rewards of wiki editing, and involving existing wiki-editors in this subject area.
Timeline and prizes
Contest officially started at the 2013 BPS meeting in Philadelphia (February 1-6). The Wiki-edit contest meet-up was on Tues Feb 5, 2:15-3:30pm.
- • Entrants register on this page then or later, give User name and choice of article, image uploads, or other focus to work on (checked out as OK by judges if not already on project watchlist). For ideas, check out the WikiProject Biophysics "to-do" list.
- • The contest is open to anyone (like Wikipedia !), but only student or early-career age entrants can earn monetary awards. Progress will be reported here. Help is available on the contest talk page, on the contest page at the Biophysical Society website[1] (which includes a pdf of a Wikipedia 101 presentation aimed at scientist & contestant needs), or from each other, the judges, and normal wiki channels.
- • Edits count thru July 15, judged by comparing page histories
- • Winners announced before 2014 BPS abstract deadline
Winners: 6 equal awards, + best few from older (or younger) entrants
Prizes:
- • Buttons: 2.75" oval, "I'm part of WikiProject Biophysics" with Reaction Center logo, distributed at the meet-up or mailed out to everyone who works on a contest entry
- • For 6 student or early-career winners: $100 cash prize, plus membership and registration for 2014 BPS meeting in San Francisco
- • If at 2014 BPS meeting: dinner with BPS wikipedians
- • "Barnstar" award from WikiProject, on User talk page of all winners
How to participate
- Looking for an article to work on? Take a look at our project to-do list, or at our lists of top-importance and high-importance articles. Of couse, you may also create a new article from scratch.
- Do you have images such as micrographs or diagrams that you don't intend to publish and are willing to donate under a free content license? You can upload them using the Commons upload wizard.
- Do you know another language well? Translate to or from existing articles, or write articles about biophysics in the country you know best.
- New to Wikipedia? Check out Your first article for pointers. There is also a training tutorial available.
- Want extra recognition or feedback on your work? Articles that are new, or that have been expanded 5x, can be nominated to appear on the Main Page in the Did you know... section. In addition, articles that meet certain quality guidelines can be nominated for good article status.
- If you're an experienced wikipedian but not in biophysics, we'd really appreciate your help in assessing articles, or in editing to get better clarity for non-experts.
Contest Entrants
Please feel free to add yourself here, and perhaps a likely biophysics-relevant area you'd work on. At some point, stake out a particular article, subject, or obsession that will form your entry (with a link to it) - you can do that as a further edit under your first entry.

Contest Judges
We'd be delighted to have people add themselves here, if they feel reasonably able and willing to judge the progress of biophysics-relevant wiki-info.
