Also added to the cast are Charlotte Rampling as Evelyn Vogel, a neuro-psychiatrist specializing in child psychopaths who knows intricate details of Dexter's lifestyle, and Sean Patrick Flanery as Jacob Elway, "the ex-cop owner of a private investigation company in Miami."[4] Nick Gomez was cast as hitman Javier Guzman.[5] Rhys Coiro was cast to play a "tough bail jumper" whom Debra is tracking.[6] On March 23, 2013, TV Guide announced casting of One Tree Hill's Bethany Joy Lenz as new recurring character Cassie. Lenz will appear after episode 4 of the eighth season. Cassie is set to be "an attractive former finance executive looking for a quieter life." [7] Season seven guest star Yvonne Strahovski (who plays Dexter's murderous ex-girlfriend Hannah McKay) will return for the eighth season.[8][9] Dana L. Wilson will return as Miami Metro Detective Angie Miller.[10] Kenny Johnson has been cast as U.S. Marshall Cooper in a multi-episode arc. Cooper is a "no-nonsense and formidable lawman" who Elway hires to track down a criminal.[11]
Production
On March 1, 2013, Jennifer Carpenter reported on her Twitter that Michael C. Hall will be directing the second episode of season 8, which will be his directing debut.[12]
On April 18, 2013, Showtime officially announced that the eighth season would be the show's last.[1]
On May 9, 2013, on the official Dexter Facebook fanpage was posted a behind the scenes photo of a clapper showing that episode 6 of season 8 will be directed by John Dahl.[13]
