Telecom Plus PLC is a multi-utility supplier based in the United Kingdom. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange, FTSE 250.
Trading as the Utility Warehouse, the company provides a range of essential services to residential households and small businesses. The Utility Warehouse supplies over 1.6m services (Gas, Electricity, Landline, Broadband and Mobile) to over 450,000 customers throughout the UK. It does not advertise, working instead in partnership with Independent Distributors, who gather new customers by personal ‘word-of-mouth’ recommendation.
Customers benefit from the convenience of a single monthly bill covering all their utilities (making it easier to manage their household budget), significant savings, award-winning customer service and a range of other benefits including a CashBack Card (which enables them to save between 3% and 7% on everything they spend at many leading high street retailers including M&S, Sainsbury’s and Boots).
History
The Company was founded in 1996 as a telecommunications business. Its first product, launched in 1997, was a least cost call routing 'Smart Box', a gadget that plugs into a phone socket and then routes the calls to alternative networks at a cheaper rate than British Telecom.[2]
Operations
Trading as the Utility Warehouse, Telecom Plus has no shops and does not advertise on television or in the national press. The entire operation (including call centres) is based in North London, with around 650 staff. The company operates a full landline telephony service, mobile telephony (piggybacked on the T-Mobile & Orange UK network), broadband, gas and electricity (the company is licensed by OFGEM), and a CashBack card (a pre-paid MasterCard). Telecom Plus PLC currently has a 20% share in UK business power supplier Opus Energy.[3]
