Adèle Exarchopoulos (born 22 November 1993) is a French actress of Greek ancestry.[1]
Early life and career
Exarchopoulos was born in the 14th arrondissement of Paris, France, to a guitar teacher father and a nurse mother. When she was nine her parents sent her to acting classes to cure her of her shyness. She continued to take lessons until 2005 where she made her debut in the film Martha. In 2006 Exarchopoulos was spotted by an agent and made her first television appearance in an episode of French police series R.I.S, police scientifique. At thirteen she had a role in the 2007 film Boxes.[1]
She also starred in films Les Enfants de Timpelbatch (2008), The Round Up (2010), Turk's Head (2010), Chez Gino (2011), Carré blanc (2011), Pieces of Me (2012) and I Used to Be Darker (2013) before making her breakthrough in Blue Is the Warmest Colour a 2013 film based on a 2010 French graphic novel Blue Angel.[2] The film won the Palme d'Or at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. Both Exarchopoulos and co-star Lea Seydoux were also awarded the Palme d'Or alongside director Abdellatif Kechiche becoming the only females apart from director Jane Campion who have won the award.[3]

Awards
The film Blue Is the Warmest Colour won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.[4] Adèle Exarchopoulos was also given the Palme as a special prize.[5]
