Newbold on Stour
Newbold on Stour is a village in Warwickshire about 6 miles (10 km) south of Stratford upon Avon.
The Church of England parish church of Saint David was built in 1833.[1] It was restored in 1884-89 and the spire was removed in 1948 following a major eathquake in the area.[1] St. David's parish is now part of the Benefice of the Stourdene Group, which also includes the parishes of Alderminster, Butlers Marston, Ettington, Halford and Pillerton Hersey.[2]
Newbold has a village store and two public houses: the Bird In Hand[3] (Hook Norton Brewery) and the White Hart. The Bird in Hand closed in Feb 2013 and the de-registered pub building is now subject to a planning application to re-open it as a Little Chef.[citation needed]
Geologically, the area around Newbold is a highly pourous sandstone, and as such is of great commercial interest to the fracking companies whose exploration licences have already been issued by Warwickshire County Council </ref> ([www.warwickshire.gov.uk/planning])
