Hi there. I'm unable to find what exactly you are referring to. Could you please point me where I may have said/mentioned this? Rehman16:00, 29 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I know some dams generate electricity. But how exactly do they do that? Is it the water pressure? Can you explain please?
It's both the pressure and the flow velocity. Tall, small, dams have a small amount of water at high pressure (the turbines are at the bottom of the hill, connected by large pipes called penstocks). Low, wide dams on rivers have lots of flow, but only a small pressure or 'head'. You can make water turbines work with either type of flow, but they type of turbine needs to be chosen to suit whichever is available. Andy Dingley (talk) 20:01, 21 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Wind turbines are more like the low-head water turbines found in river dams. There's no analogue for wind turbines that is comparable to the high-head (i.e. high pressure difference) turbines found below high dams.
The closest water turbine to a wind turbine would be one, like SeaGen, placed in a tidal race, a free-flowing channel between islands in a strongly tidal area. These are very rare as yet, but they're the most promising plan for tidal power. Anything else involves huge dams, at incredible costs. Andy Dingley (talk) 23:18, 21 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Rehman, I just came across this article and noticed an IP had made some edits indicating the dam was not yet built. I tried to confirm it was but couldn't as source you initially made the article with was a dead link but I happened to find another link. Problem is that I couldn't confirm its existence or specifications in that source, along with other searches. Do you remember any other sources that say otherwise? Some old Spanish references like here indicate it was at least under study in the early 1990s. This is the Spanish version of what I believe you looked at. I think the period they described in there was when the dam was designed, not constructed.--NortyNort(Holla)05:58, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. I remember wading through aerial/satellite images from NASA and other providers of Google Maps, trying to find where on earth that Upia Dam is located, and never really succeeded in finding it. This is the primary source I used. Probably the way they put the words (installed capacity) made me ignore the fact that the dam was probably only proposed. I just did a brief Google search on the dam, and found nothing except copies of the Wikipedia article... Maybe the dam is in fact, only planned? For a dam that is 1.7GW, and with such less reference on the internet, it is probably either a very new proposal (unlikely due to the 1980s date), or a very old "dead" proposal (of a dam that is never gonna be built). If it is the latter, I'd say we delete the article. What do you think?
From what I remember, a red "Upia Dam" link existed in the "1000MW+ list" (seems to be removed now), so I didn't want a 1000MW+ dam to be around in red. :) Rehman06:33, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It seems there is still talk of the dam. For some reason, I cannot see the link you provided above. I think www.ingetec.com.co doesn't work from my ISP which appears to be fairly common with other sites as well. I saw the specs in the Spanish version of the PDF and the picture provided was a rendition. It is tricky when they give the 1980-1983 dates but the company is a designer, not a constructor. As far as deletion, if there isn't notable controversy or talk surrounding the dam, it should be deleted or redirected. Since it doesn't exist, a redirect to List of power stations in Colombia should suffice I think. I had removed it the conventional list and replaced it with La Esmeralda Dam which I just created. I hate redlinks on that list which is part of the reason I was so motivated to get ride of them by creating dozens of articles.--NortyNort(Holla)06:49, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Rehman! I'm writing in regard to my edit of "Barrage" disambiguation article. I recently changed the format of Barrage to redirect to the "Barrage (group)" article, as it is a famous musical show and I have no doubt it is by far the most recognizable for it's use of the name "Barrage". It was not an act of vandalism nor was it intended to be. I'm curious as to why you thought this edit was an act of vandalism?
JPark99 (talk) 19:33, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi JPark99! Thanks for asking me; that's nice of you. And sorry for the late response. Many people don't generally think that it is the most recognizable venue for the term. You may want to start of with WP:NPOV and/or WP:DAB. Feel free to ask me here, or by email, of you have any other comments. Kind regards, Rehman15:42, 12 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
List of caves in Sri Lanka
There's a system bug in which properly categorized articles occasionally get picked up by the uncategorized articles list, because the database doesn't quite update correctly and the system has been temporarily fooled into thinking it's looking at a blank page. Usually it happens after a page has been moved to a new title, or a bot has reverted a page-blanking vandal — but it can usually be corrected easily, because the page drops off the list again after there's been another edit to the article (even a null edit, where you just click save without actually having changed anything, usually works.)
In this case, I don't know why the page was being picked up by the uncategorized articles list, because it was properly categorized and its edit history didn't contain any of the usual explanations for this bug, and performing follow-up edits didn't make it drop either — so I deleted the page and then restored it right away to see if that would fix the problem. Luckily it did. Bearcat (talk) 17:34, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh. About 6+ months back, there were similar issues at Commons with files, thought they were fixed altogether... Thanks for taking the time to explain. Regards, Rehman02:34, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Proposal to shut down WP Geographic Coordinates & ban coordinates on wikipedia articles
You may have noticed over the past few days that the MOTD that you link to on your user page has simply displayed a red link. This is due to the fact that not enough people are reviewing pending MOTDs here. Please help us keep the MOTD template alive and simply go and review a few of the MOTDs in the list. That way we can have a real MOTD in the future rather than re-using (This space for rent). Any help would be appreciated! ·Add§hore·Talk To Me!14:09, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hey! Thanks, doing good actually, in the real world. ;) Was unable to work on time-consuming stuff lately, have only been attending to quick watchlist-linked stuff and assisting in deletion backlogs at Commons. Have a lot of work, exams, family time (sister' wedding), and others coming up again, so not really sure when can I stark working with you guys again. I see you're still kickin'; great work with all the hydro stuff, I saw a lot of your work via watchlist. Thanks again of the message. Do feel free to throw work at me if needed, or at Common if you need any file help. Can't guarantee that it will be done instantly, but it will be done... :) Best regards, Rehman09:30, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Thanks for all your hard work on Jackie Evancho's upcoming album. We're not sure what the exact title will be, though, so would you kindly keep track of the redirects, and if the name of the album changes, fix the redirects? All the best, and Happy Editing! -- Ssilvers (talk) 16:36, 25 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, thanks! Actually I'm mostly at work these days, so I'm unable to put my full effort like how I used to. Will work on the pages whenever I get the time. But will surely keep an eye on the album titles/redirects. Best regards, Rehman02:16, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. A look at the Wikipedia article for each song shows the names of the songwriters - that's how I assembled the information. The one piece of information that we do not know is what the exact name of the album will be. The person who deleted the songwriter info has a WP:COI with respect to the article, so I don't see why we are tolerating him deleting the songwriter information. Of course, there is no rush, since more information about the article will come out. All the best! -- Ssilvers (talk) 15:05, 31 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
How dumb of me; I'll restore the songwriters :) I didn't want to be too hard on him as I don't want him to feel like the Wikipedia community is a bunch of rough nutcrackers, particularly if he is a real Evancho as his username suggests. :P After all, some of the Evanchos are actually on Wikipedia, as editors I mean. Infobox power station
Hi, Rehman. How is life? I hope you are still interesting about developing template:Infobox power station. I propose that we should add specific skeleton template also for wave farms as I have a feeling that the skeleton for all other types of power stations is too conventional power station specific and therefore not the best solution for the wave farms. I remember there was a discussion about this but I can't it find anymore. What do you think—are you interested to create this specific skeleton? Beagel (talk) 14:36, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Beagel! It's so great to hear from you again :) I really miss working with you all. Life is taking a very tight-scheduled turn for me... I expect at least until the end of June that I will be bombarded with work and studies, and followed by Wikimedia Conference (Wikimania 2012) to be held in Washington in July, and then catchup with work and studies when I return back to Colombo, taking maybe about another month. Thus sadly I wont be back for quite some time to come. :( I do have a lot of plans to improve stuff when I get back, which also includes building some muscles for the power station template, but until then, just simple quick/watchlist stuff. Hope all is well with you and the crew! Again, it's very nice to hear from you! Hope to work with you again soon, Captain! Take care. Rehman14:59, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply. We are waiting you back and I hope that later this year you will have again more time to do all things you planned. Keep going! Beagel (talk) 15:04, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There are 2 new outlines in this area that attempt to consolidate Wikipedia's coverage of their respective subjects, gathering and organizing the articles about them into one place and including descriptions for convenience. The purposes of these outlines are to make it easier for readers to survey or review a whole subject, and to choose from Wikipedia's many articles about it.
show parent-offspring relationships (with indents).
fix errors.
For more information about the format and functions of outlines, see Wikipedia:Outlines.
Building outlines of existing material (such as Wikipedia) is called "reverse outlining". Reverse outlines are useful as a revision tool, for identifying gaps in coverage and for spotting poor structuring.
Revising a work with multiple articles (such as Wikipedia) is a little different than revising a paper. But the general principles are the same...
As you develop these outlines, you may notice things about the articles they organize. Like what topics are not adequately covered, better ways to structure and present the material, awkward titles, articles that need splitting, article sections lacking {{Main}} links, etc.
I noticed that you were involved in WikiProject Skyscrapers, and I thought you could help me. I am trying to take Skycity to DYK, considering what an interesting hook it will make. For which, I intend to expand the article as much as I can (to meet DYK expansion standards). For this I request your help to expanding the article and making it a truly great hook.
I am trying to keep all edits at User:TheOriginalSoni/Sky city so that we have more than the traditional 7 days to finish this hook. Hope you shall help!!!

Hi Rehman.
Reguarding the Edouard Francois article, to me it looks like the article doesn't actually specify what it is talking about so the actual height may be less-or more-than 400m. --Popthepuff (talk) 06:54, 13 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. The page does in fact clearly say the tallest tower (hotels and offices) will be at least 400m tall. So using this minimum amount is better than not mentioning it at all. And since that site says the highest floors is at 400m, the actual structure could very well be above 400m. Rehman13:36, 13 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks. Sorry for the late response. Was ill. This page should help you kick start your article :) Let me know if you need any help. Regards, Rehman11:24, 12 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Norty! Been great. I did some editing recently as I got a little time to get online in the past few weeks/months, but still being bogged down by tight schedules. How are you? A lot has changed since the days I was here full-time... :) You live in/around Japan right? Maybe you'd be interested in going for this year's Wikimedia Conference in Hong Kong? Rehman09:43, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I am good. I have had some free time lately but still not enough to really get into an FA or anything. There is always a lot of little things to be fixed. A lot has changed but we made a good consistent foundation for articles and lists which is important. I moved back to the U.S. about a year ago. I won't be making it to HK. I can only travel overseas about once a year and that is usually for scuba diving.--NortyNort(Holla)21:05, 16 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it's currently u/c. As per the article, ref 3 and 6 states it will commence construction in June, but contrary to that, the construction has only very recently commenced. Stories on this are yet to reach the internet. Will try to upload pictures to Commons if I pass that way. In the mean time, feel free change back from the U/C status for now, if you feel that's right. Rehman15:37, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Meetup
Hi, I'm Saqib, from Pakistan currently admin on Wikivoyage. I'm planning to visit Sri Lanka next week. I was wondering if we could arrange first meetup of Wikipedians in Sri Lanka during I visit there?
