F5 is a heavy metal band which features Megadeth bassist Dave Ellefson and ex-Megadeth drummer Jimmy DeGrasso. F5 is based out of Phoenix, Arizona.[2]
History
Former Megadeth Members
Before F5 was formed, Dave Ellefson was the bassist and Jimmy DeGrasso was the drummer for the multi-platinum heavy metal thrash band Megadeth.[3]
Founded in 2003, F5 quickly realized their mission to be heavy, but always melodic. With the creative flood gates wide open the group eagerly wrote scores of new songs and recorded their debut album A Drug For All Seasons with producer Ryan Greene, who is recognized for working with bands like Megadeth, Bad Religion, and NOFX. The eponymous debut record released worldwide in 2005 on JVC (Japan/Asia), Mascot (Europe) and Cleopatra Records (North America).[3]
F5 toured the USA during 2005–2007 at which time they also recorded and released their first live DVD, entitled LIVE! For All Seasons.[3]
In 2008, F5 finished their highly anticipated second album and enlisted the talents of veteran drummer Jimmy DeGrasso to round out the new recording and touring lineup. With producer Ryan Greene at the helm, the band's new album The Reckoning was released in 2008 via OarFin Distribution (Koch).[3]
The Formation of F5
Dave Ellefson's career with Megadeth ceased in 2002. Thereafter, he went on to produce one local band called Lifted, which is where he met Steve Conley and Dave Small.[4] After recruiting John Davis, F5 was then formed.
The Debut Album
In 2005, F5 released their debut album entitled A Drug For All Seasons. F5 toured vigorously in support of the album, including opening for Staind for one tour date on the Jägermeister Music Tour in 2006.[5] MTV premiered the music video of F5's song Dissidence. In 2007 shortly after the tour, David Small parted ways with F5 and was replaced by former Megadeth drummer Jimmy DeGrasso.
From Debut To Compilation
F5's song Dissidence is included on a compilation CD called Unleashed 3.[6] The song is track number 7 on the CD. This compilation CD also features other musicians who are or were from bands like Rob Zombie, Queensrÿche, Metal Church, Dropbox, Soulfly, as well as others.[7]
The Reckoning
In 2008, F5 released their 2nd studio album entitled The Reckoning. A video emerged from the album, the self-titled song The Reckoning. Another video emerged that is not part of either album, called Nailed To The Gun.
Back To Megadeth Again
In early 2010, Megadeth's official website announced the return of Megadeth's original bassist of 20+ years, F5 bassist Dave Ellefson, back into Megadeth as their bassist again. After the release of 2 albums with mild touring, the future of F5 is unknown at this time. Also F5 and former Megadeth drummer Jimmy DeGrasso returned to Alice Cooper the year before. Steve Conley is now with AZ original Metal band Flotsam and Jetsam May 2013.
