The Conseil scolaire Viamonde[1] manages the French-language public schools in the central south-western region of Ontario. The area in which this school board operates covers 68,180 km2 of Ontario.[1] The address of its headquarters is 116 Cornelius Parkway, Toronto, Ontario, M6L 2K5.[2]

Viamonde is one of four members of the Association des conseillers(ères) des écoles publique de l'Ontario (ACÉPO).

History

The board was created January 1, 1998 when the Government of Ontario decided to create 12 French school boards across Ontario. On November 15, 2010 the board changed its name to Conseil scolaire Viamonde from Conseil scolaire de district du Centre-Sud-Ouest.[1]

In 2011 the school district announced its intention to buy unused Toronto District School Board buildings; in order to do so, it has to use funds from the Ontario provincial government. After the government denied the funding, the Conseil scolaire Viamonde announced plans to sue the province.[3]

New schools

Three new schools are scheduled to open in the next few years from 2006, in Richmond Hill, Barrie and Windsor.[2]
