CJBRT-TV channel 2 is a repeater in Rimouski, Quebec for Quebec City Radio-Canada station CBVT-TV.

History

CJBRT first signed on on November 21, 1954, as CJBR-TV, a privately-owned Radio-Canada affiliate owned by Lower St. Lawrence Radio Inc. and associated with Central Public Service Corp. Ltd., both companies owned by the Brilliant family, who also owned CJBR radio.

The Brilliants would sell CJBR radio and TV to Telemedia in 1970, who, in turn, would sell the stations to Radio-Canada in August 1977, the only private television station to be acquired by Radio-Canada. The television station would soon change its calls to CJBRT, the only 5-lettered station in Canada not to begin with "CB".

CJBRT switched from channel 3 to channel 2 in 1984, but the Maritimes Edition of TV Guide still had it listed as channel 3 until the Maritimes Edition folded in 2005. CJBRT, however, is seen on Cogeco cable channel 3 in the Rimouski area. [1], [2]

CJBRT originally provided its own newscast, local programming and local ads for Rimouski viewers, but they were discontinued sometime in the 1990s, when it became a full broadcaster of CBVT, due to unpopular budget cuts.
