National University (NU) is a university in Manila, Philippines. Founded on August 1, 1900 by Don Mariano Fortunato Jhocson, National University was hailed as the first private nonsectarian school in the Philippines. It was established to serve the country by providing education for deserving Filipino students.

It is a founding member of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and is a pioneer of the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities (PACU). Its international affiliations and memberships include the Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning (ASAHIL) and the International Association of Universities (IAU).[1]

In the last quarter of year 2008, the SM Group of Companies acquired majority ownership of the National University.[2]

National University is a founding member of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) since 1938. Prior to the formation of the UAAP, it was a founding member of the Philippine National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

The university's collegiate men's varsity team is called the National University Bulldogs. The collegiate women's varsity team is called the Lady Bulldogs, and the high school varsity teams are called the Bullpups.
