Wrapped in Red is the upcoming sixth studio album and first Christmas album by American recording artist Kelly Clarkson. Working extensively with producer Greg Kurstin, the album will contain a contemporary Christmas theme, featuring cover versions of Christmas standards and will also contain original material. Set to be released on October 25, 2013 by RCA Records, Wrapped in Red will be preceded by a yet to be announced release of "Underneath the Tree", written by Clarkson and Kurstin, as its lead single.
Background, recording, and release
In an interview on CMT Radio, Clarkson revealed she had already expressed interest in recording a Christmas album for years,[1] having recorded the Christmas songs "Oh Holy Night" and "My Grown Up Christmas List" on the compilation American Idol: The Great Holiday Classics (2003), having been featured on "There's a New Kid in Town" on country singer Blake Shelton's album Cheers, It's Christmas (2012),[2] and having released "I'll Be Home for Christmas" as a single from iTunes Session (2011).[3][4] Throughout the album's development, Clarkson worked extensively with producer Greg Kurstin, whom she also collaborated on Stronger (2011) and Greatest Hits: Chapter One (2012).[1][5][6]Ronnie Dunn, of country music duo Brooks & Dunn, revealed that he'll be featured on "Baby, It's Cold Outside".[5] Country singers Reba McEntire, whom Clarkson collaborated on a duet version of "Because of You" (2007), and Trisha Yearwood, are also reported to featured on a cover version of Christmas standard "Silent Night".[7][8] R&B recording artist Shontelle, whom Clarkson is collaborating with for her seventh studio album, revealed that she was also working on the Christmas album.[9] On August 19, 2013, Clarkson revealed that the album's title will be Wrapped In Red, which is set to be released on October 29, 2013, preceded by the release of "Underneath the Tree", written by Clarkson and Kurstin, as its lead single.[6][10][11] On September 5, 2013, Clarkson revealed the track listing for the album, which will contain five original songs.[12]
