This also explains to his grandson, had Aunt Clare thanks to the union of the husband with the maid. James declares that love in a family is useless, almost spineless beings, that to continue forward someone has to be ruthless and cruel, full of morality and nothing else. The nephew looks at him amazed and secretly spits into his cup of tea. Meanwhile Consalvo finally, with the help of Gaspar, has managed to become a member of parliament in Rome, by going on a rampage Aunt Lucretia, who aspired to that place for her husband lawyer. This man is furious, but for convenience decides not to abandon the rich family Uzeda.

John is livid with rage and unable to stand affront, so he commits suicide by shooting himself in the mouth under the astonished eyes of Consalvo. With the death of his father James and the passage of all the family assets to Consalvo and elderly great-aunt Ferdinanda, the new Prince Uzeda can move permanently to Rome and become the head of the Liberal Movement.
