Wikipedia:Bounty board

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Suburban express (talk | contribs) at 04:51, 27 September 2013 (Bounties for other tasks). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

The Wikipedia Bounty Board allows any user to post monetary bounties for completing Wikipedia-related tasks. If the Bounty Hunters complete the task, the person offering the bounty – known as the Bounty Keeper – donates the bounty money to the Wikimedia Foundation in the name of the Bounty Hunters who worked so hard on the task. The Wikimedia Foundation is the non-profit organization which runs Wikipedia. (Donating money in the name of someone else is called alternative giving.)

Normally the task is to improve an article to either good article or featured article status. (Good articles are well-sourced articles covering all major aspects of a topic, and have no major problems. Featured articles are the best articles Wikipedia has to offer and are formally peer-reviewed by Wikipedians.)

How to make an offer
  1. Add your request to the list below. Please include your username and the name of the page you want to place a bounty on.
  2. If you like, add the {{bounty}} template to the talk page and {{bountywp}} to related wikiprojects.
  3. Wait for the article to improve.
  4. Make your donation to the Wikimedia Foundation.

If you have questions about how this system works, check out the talk page. If you would like to post or seek a reward in which the gift is made to the editors rather than the Foundation, please see the Wikipedia:Reward board instead.

Completely POV, certain editors allowing the bare minimum of information involving denial of the "atrocities". Peoples, if you're looking for a challenge, this article is for you. I foresee a nice long edit war. just a little insignificant 23:25, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I really want this to become one of the (very few) articles to regain FA status after losing it.
What would you offer other than cash if I were to elevate the article, if I did not want to accept it? Jeremy112233 (talk) 20:40, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Note
I apologize if I am misunderstanding any element of this process or of Wikipedia rules in general. If so, please advise. The company I own, Suburban Express, has recently received negative "press", mostly in the form of blog postings criticizing our company for a tangled mess of issues. They can more or less distilled down to: 1) Criticism for pursuing cheaters. Some feel that using lawsuits to pursue debtors is somehow unfair to innocent little college students. But collection agencies want nothing to do with the small debts customers create for themselves. 2) Criticism for the manner in which a particular driver handled a foreign student. 3) Company reaction to false and defamatory information posted on a blog called Reddit.

These three issues have been mashed into one, and a handful of people are really fired up and doing everything they can to maximize damage to the reputation of Suburban Express. "Tech Blogs", which seem to have a vested interest in fanning flames to earn clicks and generate attention, have also worked hard to exploit the situation.

At this time, the Suburban Express article is chock full of inaccurate citations. By that, I mean that the article might say, "Suburban Express likes green eggs and ham" and cite Article A. But examination of Article A reveals that there is no such quote in Article A.

Also, the article lacks balance. Much of the quoted material is negative, and the Suburban Express "side" of the story has been left out. For instance, there are "admissible" quotes which discuss the types of situations which lead to collection suits (ie passengers printing multiple copies of one ticket and thereby stealing rides), but these either do not appear in the article, or they are immediately removed -- leaving one side of the story.

A $125 bounty is offered for syncing up the article with the cited articles, by removing statements which are not supported by the cited articles or by removing citations, and defending the article against re-posting of bad citations for 60 days.

A $125 bounty is offered for restoring reasonable balance to the article and maintaining same for 60 days.

Again, if anything above is inappropriate, please advise this newbie.

I'm doing this finally. Done with all the backend stuff (requesting backups, monitoring feed). All I need to do is work on the bit that puts the link in the article and I'll be good to go.Tim1357 talk 07:44, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Note: I have just returned to Wikipedia and hope to have the original WebCiteBOT back up and running within the next few days unless people object to me doing so here --ThaddeusB (talk) 23:33, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

After a very long absence, I am back and have restarted the bot. Initial tests are now underway. I will post another update when the bot is running full time. --ThaddeusB (talk) 01:15, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It may be worth mentioning that webcitation.org seems to be having some fundraising troubles. See their page here. --Jackson Peebles (talk) 04:33, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
