The Wintun were Native Americans who lived in what is now Northern California. They lived in the Sacramento River valley in the vicinity of Chico, on the west side of the river to the coast range. They were closely related to the Wintu, their northern neighbors.

The Wintun lived in small groups without centralized political authority, and lived by hunting and gathering. They speak a language in the Penutian linguistic group.
