Karwal

The Karwal are a Sikh, Hindu caste found in the state of Uttar Pradesh,Haryana in India. They belongs to the Rajput community and are spread all over the Northern India, in the states of Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, UP,UK, and MP. They all are writing deferents surnames like Rawal, Rana, Aheriya," Jaswal ", Chittaudi, Sishodia etc. They are further sub-divided into a number of clans, the main ones being the Purabia, Hazari, Uttariya, Koiereriya and Turkiya. According to their traditions, they were Rajputs of Jodhpur who migrated to Uttar Pradesh in the 19th Century. They are now found in the districts of Agra, Mathura, Aligarh, Etah, Hathras, Kanshiram Nagar, Mainpuri, Moradabad, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahar, Barabanki, Basti, Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Dehradun and other District of Uttar Pradesh. The Karwal speak a dialect of their own, known as Karwali, which shows strons influences of Rajasthani.^[1]

The word 'Karwal' is composed of two words 'kar' meaning 'hand' in devnagri and 'wal' or 'bal' which means power.

The word 'karwal' mean the person whose hands are powerful. Karwal is also a Rajput community found in Panjab, MP, UP, Rajasthan and Delhi.

Present circumstances

The Karwal is a bold, aggressive, intellect and educated sub-community, belonging to the Rajput clans, in Rajasthan, Punjab, MP and other northern states of India. This caste is not restricted to only Hindus, but is also common among other religions also, such as Sikhs.
