He was raised on a cattle farm in California and founded the University of Alaska’s art department in 1960. He was a professor of printmaking at the University of Wisconsin, Milwuakee.
The University of Wisconsin established an archive of his work. [1] In 2012, he received an honorary doctorate of arts from the University of Alaska in recognition of his contribution to the practice of art in the State. [2]
