White Admiral
In addition, an insect emblem has been chosen by popular vote (vote populaire) in en october 1998 during a poll sponsored by the Montreal Insectarium: The White Admiral (‘’Limenitis arthemis’’) [1]. The butterfly was in competition with four other candidates: the (coccinelle maculée), the (demoiselle bistrée), the (bourdon fébrile) and the (cicindèle à six points). The White Admiral won with 32 % of the 230 660 votes. The Ministry for Durable Developpement, the Ministry of the Enrironment and the Ministry of Quebec Parks support and finance to this date (2006) actions to recognize officially the White Admiral as the insect emblem.
The Western White Admiral or simply the White Admiral is, since October 1998, the (still unofficial) insect emblem of the province of Québec, Canada.
