"Bucket List" is a song recorded by Canadian singer Nelly Furtado for her fifth studio album The Spirit Indestructible (2012). It was co-written by Furtado with the song's producer Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins. It was intended to be released as the third American single from the album, however no official release date was ever given.[1]
Composition
"Bucket List" has an acoustic guitar driven melody.[2] In the song, Furtado meditates on personal relationships and life goals.[3]
Critical response
Colin McGuire of PopMatters wrote that the song "can't seem to break out" into the "strikingly powerful chorus it needs in order to be rendered complete".[2]
Music video
The music video for "Bucket List" follows a group of five "uniformly hip" friends around New York City as they "live while they're young and discover who they are". The friends climb to the top of skyscrapers, visit Central Park and share their first kiss.[4] The scenes are intercut with close-up footage of Furtado. Sam Lansky of Idolator called the video "beautiful and evocative", even though it doesn't "exactly hit the right mark".[5] Richard of DJ Booth wrote that the video is a "catchy wake-up call to anyone who's been putting off for tomorrow something they could be doing today—whether it’s climbing Mt. Everest or simply telling a certain guy or girl how you feel about them".[6]
