Wayne W. Dyer (born May 10, 1940) is a popular American self-help advocate who attained popularity as the author of Your Erroneous Zones and Pulling Your Own Strings. He is frequently featured on U.S. public television (PBS). Televised lectures about his books Manifest Your Destiny, Wisdom of the Ages, There’s a Spiritual Solution to Every Problem, 10 Secrets for Success and Inner Peace, The Power of Intention, and Inspiration have all been featured programs for PBS pledge drives.

Wayne Dyer was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1940. Dyer's family was abandoned by his alcoholic father and he sepnt his early life living in foster homes and orphanages. As a young man, Dyer joined the Navy and served for four years. At the age of 22 Dyer left the Navy and studyied at Wayne State University in Detroit, where he earned a Ed.D. in counseling. After earning his degree he worked as an associate professor at St. John’s University in New York.

Dyer is one of the most widely known and respected people in the field of self-empowerment, affectionately called the "father of motivation" by some of his fans. He became a well-known author with his bestselling book Your Erroneous Zones, and has gone on to write many other self-help books, including Meditations for Manifesting, Staying on the Path, Your Sacred Self, Everyday Wisdom, and You’ll See It When You Believe It. Dyer's most recent books are The Power of Intention and Inspiration: Your Ultimate Calling. The Power of Intention proposes that one's thoughts bring about the circumstances one has in one's life. It also forms the theme of a recent PBS presentation.

Affiliations and contemporaries

Dyer has been described as being in the vanguard of the New Thought Movement, along with other popular self-help teachers as Deepak Chopra.
