R. Hyrum Savage (born May 26, 1973), is an RPG designer and brand manager whose design credits include Diomin and Forbidden Kingdoms.
Biography
Early years
Hyrum was born in Long Beach, California and is the only child of Robert and Aida Savage. He grew up in West Los Angeles and Santa Monica where he attended Venice High School, Santa Monica College, and for a short period of time, Pepperdine University.
He was married in 1997 and now lives in the San Diego area with his wife, 4 children, 1 cat, and a snake.
Career
Hyrum has worked for Disney Interactive, FreePC, and eMachines.[citation needed] Savage started the California RPG publisher OtherWorld Creations (OWC) with Dave Webb, as one of many RPG publishers that got into business thanks to the d20 boom.[1] The company kicked off publication with Diomin, and the d20 licensing convinced Savage and his friends Chad Cunningham and Chris Miller to conver the setting to d20 and release it.[1] In 2004 Savage went to work for Upper Deck Entertainment, after production came to a halt when both their distributor Wizard's Attic and the d20 market collapsed.[1] Savage resurrected OtherWorld in 2006 by taking advantage of another OGL-like licensing opportunity.[1] In 2007, Savage formed a subsidiary of OtherWorld Creations with Stan Brown called Super Genius Games.[1] Savage was able to turn much more attention to the company in 2009 after leaving Upper Deck.[1]
Until May 2008 he was the brand manager for the New Hobby Games division at Upper Deck Entertainment, as well as the brand manager for the Vs. System and all other superhero product lines including the Marvel Masterpieces trading card brand and Marvel Ultimate Battles TCG.
He accepted a new position as marketing manager at Paizo Publishing in September, 2010.
