Sanaya Irani (pronounced [saːnaːjaː iːraːnːiː]; born 17 September 1983[4][5]) is an Indian actress known best for her role in television serial Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? as Khushi Kumari Gupta Singh Raizada . [6][7] She also appeared in a minor role in Bollywood film Fanna and Television Shows like Miley Jab Hum Tum, Left Right Left and Sony TV's Chhanchhan as Female Protagonist. She will be seen in Colors TV 's next Rang Rasiya to be launched in 2014.

Personal life

Sanaya with boyfriend Mohit Sehgal (2012)

Sanaya Irani was born and raised in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India and is of the Persian descent. She is one of three siblings, a brother and a sister, both of whom reside abroad in U.S. The actress received her schooling in Ooty.[8] Following this, she graduated from Sydenham College.[9] and wanted to pursue an MBA degree but upon her mothers advice, she entered the glamour world with ads and modelling. She then forayed into acting with Jagjit Singh's song Tumko Dekha To Yeh. Sanaya is also a Zoroastrian.[10]

The actress announced her relationship with Mohit Sehgal from Miley Jab Hum Tum on November 19, 2010, the last day of the shoot. Having repeatedly talked about their love for one another, the couple have been in a relationship for five years. However, both have denied reports of marriage and have said while it is not planned for the near future, they do plan to settle down one day. [11][12] The couple have also spoken about how they are the perfect examples of "opposites attract": "I am not a romantic. In fact, Mohit makes up for the romance missing from my end. I guess that's why they say that opposites attract", says Sanaya.

Sanaya has maintained a close friendship with colleagues Ragini Khanna, Arjun Bijlani, Barun Sobti, Akshay Dogra and Drashti Dhami.

Career

Her first portfolio was taken by photographer, now actor Boman Irani,[13] with which she began her modelling career. She appeared in various advertisements for companies such as Airtel, Reliance, and Pepsi in her early career, working with Shahrukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Priyanka Chopra in some instances.[1] She made her performing debut with Jagjit Singh's song "Tumko Dekha To Yeh" before appearing in other music videos.[citation needed] Sanaya began her acting career in 2006 as Bobo, the friend of the lead, Zooni (Kajol) in the Yash Raj movie Fanaa.[9] Sanaya then made her television debut in the SAB TV drama Left Right Left (2007) as Sameera, a new joining cadet.[14] This was followed by a negative role in Radhaa Ki Betiyaan Kuch Kar Dikhayengi (2008) on Imagine TV.[15]

Her first role as a protagonist came in STAR One's Miley Jab Hum Tum (2008-2010),[16] as the simple, studious and reclusive Gunjan.[17] She also briefly hosted the second season of Zara Nachke Dikha on STAR Plus with Mohit Sehgal.[18]

After the end of Miley Jab Hum Tum, Sanaya portrayed the bubbly and loving Khushi Kumari Gupta, the female protagonist of Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? (2011-2012).[19] Sanaya gained massive popularity for her portrayal of Khushi and her on-screen chemistry opposite male lead Barun Sobti.[20] Her co-star Barun once famously called their chemistry "khatarnak" (dangerous). The show, which aired its final episode on 30 November 2012, had consistently maintained its position as one of the top ten daily dramas on Indian general entertainment channels and has a tremendous fan following.[21]

During the three months after Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?, Sanaya appeared as a contestant in Welcome - Baazi Mehmaan-Nawaazi ki,[22] hosted by Ram Kapoor .She also hosted Zee TV's Valentine's Day special Ishq Wala Love with Karan Grover.[23]

Sanaya played the role of a vivacious and modern girl in Chhan Chhan (2013) opposite Anuj Sachdeva (who replaced Farhan Khan due to the latter being unable to grasp the audience) on Sony TV.[24][25] The show was loosely based on the Hindi movie Khubsoorat.[26] However, the show failed to gain high ratings and ended on September 19, 2013. She also appeared in Colors TV's Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (Season 6) once briefly as a guest co-host with Kapil Sharma and later as a guest contestant in support of close friend Drashti Dhami during the Teen ka Tadka special.

Sanaya will next be seen in Colors TV's upcoming show, Rang Rasiya opposite Ashish Sharma. The show is set to be launched in early January 2014. It is produced by Saurabh Tiwari, head of Nautanki Telefilms'. Sanaya portrays the character of Parvati. The show will be an intense love story which tells the tale of a girl in love with a man who denies the relationship. How they gradually come together is the crux of the story.
