Controversy has surrounded the countdowns because in the page's source code there is code borrowed from a programmer in Europe, which would be unlikely for a large company like Bethesda to do. Reddit users have speculated that it is "just a red herring to throw us off" and "inconsistencies in the code might actually be intentional". They have also exclaimed, "Why reinvent the wheel while you can use something that's ready?" and "It's not unlikely for programmers to borrow others' perfectly good code".^[1]
