The Sierra Foothills Shakespeare Festival
The [1]Sierra Foothills Shakespeare Festival was created by Christopher Uchman-Douglas, executive director of Halycon Entertainment, a non-profit educational theater organziation in El Dorado Hills, California.
The festival's first production, Romeo and Juliet launched on June 9, 2006. The Festival constructed a replica Elizabethian stage at the outdoor amphitheater of Folsom High School specifically for it's first production.
The Sierra Foothills Shakespeare Festival draws from local El Dorado Hills/Folsom talent, as well as Bay area talent, and features both seasoned and new performers.
The Festivals primary endeavor is to breathe life into William Shakespeare’s legacy on a traditional Elizabethan stage while educating and entertaining. Halcyon’s productions abide by the traditional style of the work as we feel it should be represented – no altering of the Bard’s language, no modern adaptation that can cloud the intent and story of the plays. The Festival further believes that each emotion should be understood by the actor and subsequently relayed to the audience through the actor’s words and actions—similar to listening to an Opera in a foreign language where the emotion touches the soul beyond the language barrier. For the actors, this presents a more thorough test of acting acumen. For the audience, a more relatable, logical and detail-oriented experience.
