Domakonda is a village in the Nizamabad district in Andhra Pradesh, India. It is also a subdivision (Mandal) of India.
Domakonda is located 38.3 kilometers South East of Nizamabad and 98 kilometers from the city of Hyderabad. Domakonda is a historical site in the Telengana region. Other villages in Domakonda Mandal are Ambaripet, Anchanoor, Beebipet, Chitamanpally, Domakonda, Gottumukla, and Janagama. The post office name is Domakonda. Domakonda is a sub-district, known for its forts and temples, located between Jangampally and Bipet, which has shouldered some charitable responsibilities. The best known temples are the Sai Baba and the Shiva temple. The Sai Baba temple was built by Shri Paskanti Balayya and was opened on 13 February 1992. Every year on 13 February, the Sai Bandara occurs.
The Shiva temple outside of the fort was built by Kakatiya kings. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and reflects the Kakatiyan style of architecture, as it was built during the Kakatiyan Era. The temple stands on a three-foot platform with a beautifully-carved Nandi (the bull serves as a mount (Sanskrit: Vahana) of Lord Shiva) outside the temple in an open area. Unlike other temples, you will not find a flag mast in front of it because it doesn't have a gopuram (temple tower).
A few years ago, the temple was dilapidated. Very recently, the stone temple was completely disassembled and re-arranged to bring it into today’s restored condition. The temple has a huge shiva lingam – considered an embodiment of Lord Shiva, with its guarding presence by the Nandhi (Bull) carved from a single stone. The temple is highly elevated by many rock beds beneath it, giving a high standing from the ground level. The temple roof stands on eighteen carved stone pillars.
The Domakonda Fort stands as a magnificent example of the defensive architecture of the past. The fort was constructed 400 years ago by Kamineni Vamsam. They were under the Nizam of Hyderabad, It is constructed with a blend of Muslim and Hindu architecture, as the area was ruled by the two. The arched gateway of the entrance is a great example of the Asaf Jaahi architecture. The fort has a number of tall, round, and square fortresses running all over its compound walls. There are two palaces and a temple complex inside the fort.
