Clubul Sportiv Universitatea Craiova (Romanian pronunciation: [universiˈtate̯a kraˈjova]) is a Romanian professional football club from Craiova, founded in 2013. It was formed after the conflict between Adrian Mititelu, the owner of FC Universitatea Craiova, and Lia Olguța Vasilescu, the mayor of Craiova.

History

Following the 20 June 2011 decision of Romanian Football Federation to dezaffiliate FC Universitatea Craiova,[1], the city of Craiova lost its first football team. The decision was attacked in court,[citation needed] but Craiova's mayor, Lia Olguța Vasilescu considered, that Mititelu can't re-affiliate FC Universitatea Craiova.[citation needed] As a consequence, in the summer of 2013, local authorities of Craiova, supported by Pavel Badea, being associated with Blue Lions Capital[citation needed] refounded a football department inside the sports club CS Universitatea Craiova.[citation needed] CS Universitatea Craiova claims that this team owns the honours until 1992[2], but documents prove that SC FC Universitatea Craiova SA is the successor of the Sporting Association FC Universitatea Craiova, that split from the university club. [3]

On 14 August 2013, CS Universitatea Craiova was provisionally affiliated to Romanian Football Federation (FRF), due the problems with licensing file.[4] After resolving several problems with, it was introduced in Liga II. CSU Craiova debuted in the competition season on 27 August, when defeated with 6-1 Pandurii Târgu Jiu 2, in the fourth round of the Romanian Cup. [5]

Rivalries

There's an ongoing dispute with FC Universitatea Craiova regarding the name and colors of the club. Mititelu, FC Universitatea owner, sent a solicitation to FIFA claming that CSU should be expelled from Liga II and forced to change its name. [9]
