Under the Same Sun
Under The Same Sun is an organization that protects person that has a condition called albinism. In East African countries, persons with albinism are being discriminated against due to skin colour differences.
People in East African countries believe that all body parts of a person with albinism is valuable to sell and brings good luck onto themselves. This puts all persons with albinism in great danger and must be careful while on the streets as many people will attack them for the valuable money. Another issue with persons with albinism in East Africa, is sun cancer. Sunscreen is rarely found in East African countries and when found it is priced in USD at high prices that a typical person with albinism would not be able to afford. Without pigment (see information below), person with albinism has no defence form sunburns and sun cancer. Since, people in East Africa believe that they are magical it is not safe to go to a hospital as the doctor my attempt to injure or kill them for money. This leaves the person with albinism no where to go and they will slowly get more sick. Finally, because of discrimination, employers refuse to offer jobs to persons with albinism because many people will avoid his business. This results in many poor and homeless persons with albinism across East Africa.[1]
Persons with albinism have no pigment which makes them have no colour in their skin or hair. They also have nystagmus which is irritation in the eyes making it hard to focus on a single object or words.
