Medanta-The Medicity[1] is a distinguished and one of India's largest multi-super specialty medical institute led by exceptional medical practitioners, located in Gurgaon in the National Capital Region.[2][3] Founded in 2009 by renowned cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr. Naresh Trehan, the Medicity was envisioned with the aim of creating "an institute which matches the highest standards of healthcare delivery across the world...".[4] Dr. Naresh Trehan,is the acting Chairman and Managing Director of Medanta.
Overview
Medanta[5] is spread across 43 acres (17 ha), and includes a research center as well as a medical and nursing school. It has 1,250 beds and over 350 critical care beds, with 45 operation theatres catering to over 20 specialties.[6] Led and managed by world renowned doctors along with dedicated nursing staff members, Medanta offers cutting edge technology and state-of-the-art treatment facilities designed to deliver healthcare at an affordable cost.[7]
It was set-up with an initial estimated cost of ₹932 crore (US$110 million) funded by bank syndication which consisted of YES Bank, Allahabad Bank, Dena Bank, Punjab & Sind Bank and State Bank of Hyderabad.[8] However, it became operational in October 2009,[9] at a cost of ₹1,200 crore (US$140 million).[6] Medanta brings together an outstanding pool of doctors, scientists and clinical researchers to foster collaborative, multidisciplinary investigation, inspiring new ideas and discoveries. A one-of-its-kind facility across the world, Medanta through its research integrates modern and traditional forms of medicine to provide accessible and affordable healthcare.[7]
In 2012, Medanta extended its healthcare services outside NCR, by opening a neuro care OPD at Jagdish Memorial Hospital at Kankerbagh, Patna.[10]

Achievements
In 2010, Medanta became the first hospital in the country to offer robotic surgeries in cardiac, urology and gynaecology under one roof.[13] This was made possible with the use of the latest and Minimally invasive procedure, Da Vinci Surgical System, which uses latest surgical and robotics technologies for performing routine as well as complex surgeries with enhanced vision, precision, and finesse.
In January 2013, a panel of expert doctors from Medanta, headed by Dr. A.S.Soin performed the first successful intestinal transplant in India.[14]
In June 2013, Medanta added another feather in its cap when Chairman Dr. Naresh Trehan launched India's first state-of-the-art Air Ambulance,Flying Doctors India. Flying Doctors is first of its kind in the country with a noble cause attached with it. Its "PILATUS PC-12" aircraft is a dedicated air ambulance to transport critical patients from remote areas in India and neighboring countries to metros with better medical facilities.[15]
