José F Urbano Martos

Personal

He was born on 9 December 1972 in Malaga.[1]

He is from Malaga.[2][3]

At the 2012 Gala of Sports Journalists of Andalusia, he earned a Sports Effort award.[3]

In 2013, he was awarded the bronze Real Orden al Mérito Deportivo.[4]

5-a-side football

He is the coach of the Spain national 5-a-side football team.[2][3]

In 1999, he started coaching the Once Málaga para ciegos team, a position he would hold until he left in 2008. In that period, he won six league championships, 5 Spanish championships and one Supercopa.[5]

In 2009, he published a book titled "Fundamentos Del Futbol Sala Para Ciegos", a Spanish language book about the fundamentals of blind football.[6]

He coached the national team at the 2012 Summer Paralympics,[3] who won a bronze medal after defeating Argentia in a penalty shootout in the bronze medal match.[7][8]

In July 2012, he and other local Olympians and Paralympians were received by Mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre, at the town hall as part of a reception in their honour.[9]

In late 2012, the government of Malaga announced they would build the first purpose built blind football pitch in the country, because the national team had a number of players based there and Urbano lives in Malaga.[2]

In November 2012, a program aired where Urbano and other players from Malaga taught Spanish national football team and Valencia FC player Roberto Soldado how to play the game.[10]
