My name is derived from Catherine Parr, wife of Henry VIII, daughter of Sir Thomas Parr of Kendal, knight and Lord of the Manor and his son, reputably claimed as died at birth, but lived and continued the family name. See also William Parr, 1st Baron of Kendal, KG (1434 – 1483) and descendants. My grandfather was Thomas William Parr and my father, Thomas Alfred Parr. I was christened Roger Thomas Sydney Parr, born in London 6th November, 1942 and have assumed the title of Lord Astede, which was the former name of the village of Ashtead, Surrey, where I lived for forty years.
