Hinjawadi also known as Hinjewadi officially is a locality now treated as the IT Village of Pune which is located on the NH4 bypass around the city of Pune in India. Originally a small village, it is now the location of Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, housing around twenty software companies as listed below.
Overview
A completely rural locale until the construction of the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, two phases have been completed amidst rapid urbanization of surrounding areas. The third phase of the infotech park is under construction, with further phases planned.
The technology park at Hinjawadi houses many software companies. Some of them are: EMERSON Innovation Center Pune, Fulcrum Worldwide,[1] IBM India, Hexaware Technologies, AtoS, Synechron Technologies, Mahindra Engineering (located at the remotest corner of phase 2), Idea Cellular, KPIT Cummins, Tata Technologies, Infosys, Wipro, Credit Suisse (located inside Wipro), Tata Consultancy Services, Geometric Limited, Tech Mahindra, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Persistent Systems (under construction), Honeywell, Mindtree, 3DPLM Software Solutions, CECsoft, Compulink, Pesh-Infotech, ANSYS Fluent and Digital Group InfoTech. It also houses product companies such as Compulink and CISCO. College - SCIT/SCMHRD/SIIB is also housed in Hinjewadi Phase 1.
Phase 1,2 & 3 of the Hinjawadi IT Park are completed. In future time there are plans for phase 4 and the MIDC has earmarked an area for biotech firms. A few, like Emcure and Eclerx, are already having presence in phase 2. Due to rapid development, Hinjewadi is facing serious traffic problems during peak hours. From 8.30 AM to 11:30 AM, HMVs (Heavy Motor Vehicles) are not allowed to enter the area due to congestion on the roads. About 3-5 Lac workers travel daily to and from the IT park.
Due to rapid developments in and around Hinjawadi, property prices have skyrocketed.
Two major colleges are also located in Hinjawadi namely International Institute of Information Technology and Symbiosis Centre for Management and Human Resource Development. These two are located in Phase 1 of the Area.
Security

Security is a major problem in this area. Women are the most vulnerable and crimes against women are fairly common [5] [6]. All companies in this area have been requested by police to not let women employees work at night and to be accompanied by professional security escorts.
Roadside extortion of IT employees is also a fairly common occurrence. The modus operandi is very simple. One of the locals either jumps in front of a moving vehicle or brushes against it with his motorcycle / bicycle and pretends to be hit and hurt. A gang is already standing by and collect around the IT worker and subject him to dire threats and simple assault to extract some amount of petty cash and disperse before the police arrive.
Hub for Integrated Townships in Pune

Hinjewadi (Hinjewadi) is also known as a major hub for integrated townships in Pune.[2] Favored by upmarket segment of property buyers, these townships are self-sufficient in civic and social infrastructure. The new Special Township Policy Act of the Maharashtra government has laid down an integrated approach to development of townships to decongest Pune Municipal Corporation areas and encourage new settlements in the periphery though higher FSI (floor space index) than what is normally allowed in the municipal limits. This primarily includes a minimum area of 100 acre, investment in public infrastructure, such as roads, water, sewage, medical facilities etc. Hinjewadi (Hinjawadi) is witnessing rapid growth of townships, because of the presence of Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park. The influx of IT professionals to Pune and Hinjewadi (Hinjawadi) has thus increased. Consequently, the need for residences suiting the taste and requirements of IT professionals has risen. This has led to the development of integrated townships in Hinjewadi (Hinjawadi), which have schools, health care facilities, restaurants, shopping areas and entertainment areas on their premises. Most of the renowned developers in Pune are developing integrated townships in Hinjewadi (Hinjawadi). Some of these townships include Megapolis Pune by Pegasus Properties Ltd, Life Republic by Kolte Patil Developers, Blue Ridge by Paranjape Schemes (Construction) Limited and Xrbia by Eiffel Group. Xrbia Hinjewadi is being developed on approximately 200 acres of land for flats out of which over 40% of the flats for sale in Pune is dedicated to green open spaces with playgrounds, pools, parks, water bodies, roads, and recreation areas.
