Paweł Wiktor Graliński ([‘pavɛw ‘viktɑ ɡral'inski] Polish architect, renowned specialist in planning and design of mixed - use developments and commercial and entertainment centres in Poland and Europe.

Life and career

Graliński graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology (1984). During his studies, he participated in registration of several monuments of historic architecture, and his work has been purchased by the Polish Academy of Sciences. Involved in the anti-communist opposition. Since 1984 he has lived and worked in Oslo, Norway, where from 1986, he led the design office ‘Andersen, Larsson, Graliński AS’, and from 1988 his own design studio. His professional contribution was pivotal for marked transition into modern shopping centres at the turn of eighties and nineties in Scandinavia. Aside from shopping developments, during this period, he designed several projects such as insurance company head quarter, office buildings, coastal land developments, housing, redevelopment projects and residential sites.

1996 he was invited to design Sadyba Best Mall in Warsaw. He realized this project from scratch. 1997 he founded in Poland his own architectural firm: Paweł W. Graliński Arch Magic Assoc. Architects (Arch Magic ®) dealing with complex investment projects and real estate development. Graliński is the author of several commercial projects, mixed-use, entertainment (including all Polish Cinema City projects), university buildings, office and industrial as well as residential areas and residences.

P. W. Graliński belongs to: Association of Norwegian Architects, Chamber of Architects, Engineers Chamber of the Republic of Poland, the Association of Polish Architects.

He lives outside of Warsaw in the house of his own design. Cultivates its own vineyard and cultured race dogs.

Awards and prizes

He won a prestigious merit in global competition held by the International Council of Shopping Centers for the project of the Shopping and Entertainment Centre - 'Sadyba Best Mall' in 2002. It was the first ever ICSC award for a project in Central and Eastern Europe region.

He was honoured with following awards:

  • The most beautiful office building (Viking House, 2000, the prize by the Mayor of Warsaw, District of Ursynów)
  • 'Innovative Design' of Sadyba Best Mall, Warsaw, 2002, the prize by the ICSC)
  • 'Building of the Year' (Punkt 44 entertainment centre in Katowice, Silesia, Poland, 2002, the prize by the Polish Association of Construction Engineers)
  • 'Interior of the Year' (Cinema City Toruń, 2004, the Pomerania Marshal award.

Several of his designs are an integral and important part of internationally awarded projects of shopping and entertainment centres: Manufacture in Lodz, Arkadia in Warsaw and Silesia in Katowice.
