Nargis Fakhri (born October 20, 1979)[1][2][3] is an Pakistani American fashion model and actress.nargis She has appeared on America's Next Top Model and made her Bollywood debut with 2011 Bollywood film Rockstar, and consequently starred as a war correspondent in the 2013 political thriller Madras Cafe.
In addition to acting, she is the brand ambassador of Pakistan's network service Mobilink along with Ali Zafar.
Early life
Fakhri was born in Queens, New York to a Pakistani father Mohammed A. Fakhri and a Czech mother Marie A. Fakhri.[4][5] Her parents divorced each other when she was six or seven years old.[6][6][7] She has one sister Aliya Fakhri. According to Fakhri she and her sister raised up following Islamic culture.
Modeling
Fakhri appeared on America's Next Top Model Cycles 2 and 3 in 2004.[8] She posed for the 2009 Kingfisher Swimsuit Calendar.[8]
Acting career
2011-12: Debut with Rockstar
In 2011, she made her feature film debut in the musical romantic drama Bollywood film, Rockstar, directed by Imtiaz Ali. She played the female lead role of Heer Kaul, the girl who falls in love with Jordan (played by Ranbir Kapoor), who eventually becomes a famous international artist, but their relationship is obstructed by her marriage and a series of health problems. She ends up breaking his heart and dying whilst pregnant with his child.[9][10] The film was a hit, performing well at the box office, however Fakhri's performance received mixed reviews, with some stating that she was overshadowed by Kapoor, but with others branding her as "promising." She received nominations at several award ceremonies, including the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.
Fakhri is currently signed on for a three film contract with Akshay Kumar's Hari Om Productions, and was signed for the 2012 action comedy Khiladi 786 opposite Kumar, but later dropped out, and was replaced by Asin.[11]
2012-present: Madras Cafe and upcoming projects
Fakhri received critical acclaim for her role as a British war correspondent, Jaya Sahni, in Shoojit Sircar's political espionage thriller Madras Cafe, where she featured alongside John Abraham. Her performance was branded "exceptional" by one critic and it was stated that she "strikes the right notes."[12] Fakhri did extensive research for the role, and was widely appreciated for having come a long way in terms of performance. She made a special appearance in the item number "Dhating Naach" in Phata Poster Nikhla Hero, which was released on September 20, 2013. She is currently filming for Main Tera Hero, a David Dhawan film co-starring Varun Dhawan and Ileana D'Cruz, to be released in April 2014. She has also been signed on for the remake of the 1982 comedy film Shaukeen, which is currently in the pre-production stages.
Non-acting career
Nargis sits on the Board of Advisors for the MindShare Ventures Group, a New York City-based company that dwells in several business areas, including fashion, tech, healthcare, commodities, real estate,and entertainment.[13]
