Aircraft shootdown

The shootdown is a term for one of the causes of aviation accidents, which refers to deliberate downing of an aircraft (either in flight or during the take-off/landing). The term appears sometime in the late 1980's and is allegedly a contraction from 'shoot' & 'down' For particular cases see List of aircraft shootdowns.
