Eda Coutinho Institute
Giving back to society. The institute is named after the founder and president of the IESB, Professor Eda C. B. Machado. She created IESB 15 years ago, starting a path that was difficult and lonely at some points, but this was never a reason for not being extremely gratifying. Besides being the President of the university, she’s also a Professor. The experience that she gained in her entire life as faculty is: The proper formation for a young person requires pedagogical practices of excellence, adequate educational resources, top-quality infrastructure and well-prepared, dedicated professionals from education institutes. None of this would be possible without the passion for teaching. In IESB, social responsibility is developed and stimulated inside and outside the classroom. From discussion groups, scientific research, and even services to the community, the students put in practice knowledge they gained in the courses in a responsible, solidary form in real situations. IESB in action integrates students from different courses and gathers initiatives that generate benefits for the community, forming a link of safety and commitment among collaborators, faculty, students and the population. Launched in 2000, the Program counts on actions in terms of legal orientation, community communication, literacy courses for youths and adults, pedagogical support in school formation and individual, collective psychotherapy sessions. This in addition to short-term courses for preparing waiters, tailors and other professions. Launched by the occasion of the celebration of IESB’s 15 years, the Eda Coutinho Institute comes in response to the greatest challenges that the Brazilian society is facing, with the development of technologies aimed at projects of interests of the society and the focus on sustainable development. Employing the same principles of pedagogical excellence and management model practiced in IESB, the Institute works from strategically designed centers to articulate a network of social solutions.
