If You Wait is the début studio album by English electronic music band London Grammar. It was released on 9 September 2013 on Metal & Dust Recordings,[5] while being distributed by Warner/Chappell and Columbia Records.[6] Four singles have been released from the album: "Metal & Dust", "Wasting My Young Years", "Strong" and "Nightcall". It entered the UK Albums Chart at number two, selling 33,130 copies in its first week.[7] In its 22nd week, it re-entered the top 10 following an appearance from the band on The Graham Norton Show and the album was certified Platinum the following week.
Background
The album's lyrics are mainly based upon vocalist Hannah Reid's personal life; in particular her troublesome teenage years.[5] The Guardian suggested that this was "the first quarter-life-crisis album."[5]
Release
In December 2012, London Grammar posted the song "Hey Now" onto SoundCloud. The song has garnered just under 700,000 plays to date.[8]
The album was announced on 18 July 2013.[9]

If You Wait received generally positive reviews from critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalised rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album has received an average score of 77, based on 16 reviews.[10]
Andy Gill of The Independent summarised the album's production and instrumentation as "all beautifully sketched to evoke the crepuscular [sic] intimacies of the songs."[14]
A large quantity of praise went to the vocal ability of Reid, whose husky contralto vocals have been described as "defining and soulful" by Clash magazine[12] and "emotive" and "folky" by Drowned in Sound.[2] Her voice has been compared to artists like Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine,[20] Annie Lennox,[21] Lana Del Rey,[14] and Julee Cruise.[14]
