Template:Infobox Olympics Slovenia Slovenia first participated as an independent nation at the Olympic Games in 1992, and has sent athletes to compete in every Games since then. Slovenian athletes first competed at the Olympics in 1912 as a part of the Austrian team, when Rudolf Cvetko became the first Slovene winning an Olympic medal, a silver in team sabre.[1] Then, until the independence, they competed as a part of Yugoslavia. Only olympic summer medals for Kingdom of Yugoslavia before WW2 were won by Slovenian athletes. In those pre-war times Slovenian sportsmen were very successful in gymnastics, where they achived 8 medals. Three gold, two silver and three bronze medals. Most successfull sportsman was late Leon Štukelj(3 Gold, 1 Silver and 3 Bronze). He is still the most decorated Slovenian Olympic sportsman.

The National Olympic Committee for Slovenia was created in 1991 and recognized in 1993.

Slovenian athletes have won a total of nineteen medals at the Summer Olympic Games and another fifteen at the Winter Olympic Games.
